Daniel Weeks

American tenor Daniel Weeks is enjoying a varied career that encompasses opera and orchestral performances, recitals and recordings. Recent performances include being a soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Augusta Symphony Orchestra and the leading role in Luigi Nono’s one-act opera, Intolleranza, with the American Symphony Orchestra. Other performances include Handel’s Messiah with the Rochester Philharmonic under Christopher Warren Green.

Past season engagements include Belmonte in a concert version of Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde with the Princeton University Orchestra, the world-premiere concert staging of Gregory Vajda’s opera Georgia Bottoms: A Modern Opera of the South with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Bozeman and Chattanooga symphonies, Handel’s Messiah with the Orquesta Sinfónica Naciónal de Mexico; concert performances and a new recording of Mozart’s Requiem with the Winter Park Bach Festival, and Elijah with the South Dakota Symphony.

In concert he has sung Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Cincinnati, Huntsville, Bozeman, and Dallas symphonies, the Louisville Orchestra, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, and the National Chorale; Handel’s Messiah with the Louisiana Philharmonic, and Indianapolis, Memphis and Pittsburgh symphonies; Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass with the Columbus and Huntsville symphonies; Verdi’s Requiem with the Orquesta Sinfónica Naciónal de Costa Rica; and Bruckner’s Te Deum and Bach’s Magnificat with the Houston Symphony. He has also appeared as soloist with Mexico’s Xalapa Symphonya and the Oratorio Society of New York.

Opera performances include Curley in Of Mice and Men with Kentucky Opera; Don Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro, the Fourth Jew in Salome, and Howard Boucher in Dead Man Walking with Cincinnati Opera; Triquet in Eugene Onegin and Father Confessor in Dialogues of the Carmelites with Kentucky Opera; Flute in A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Florentine Opera; Pong in Turandot with Austin Lyric Opera, and Rodolfo in La bohème in concert with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra.

Renowned conductors with whom he has performed include Christoph Campestrini, Jane Glover, John Rutter, Carlos Miguel Prieto and Gregory Vajda, among many others. Mr. Weeks has collaborated with such notable pianists as Valerie Trujillo, Timothy Cheek and Douglas Fisher. With pianist Naomi Oliphant he recorded Women of Firsts, which showcases art songs of women composers who were “the first” in their respective countries to achieve wide recognition for their compositions. It features songs by Lili Boulanger (France), Vítězslava Kaprálová (Czech Republic), Grażyna Bacewicz (Poland), and Amy Beach (America).

Daniel Weeks was a national finalist in the Metropolitan Opera’s Council Auditions, was named Young Artist by the National Federation of Music Clubs, and made his New York recital debut, with pianist Donna Loewy, in the Judith Raskin Memorial Concert Series. He was honored to sing under the auspices of the Marilyn Horne Foundation in “On Wings of Song”, also with Donna Loewy, with whom he subsequently toured extensively.

Mr. Weeks holds a teaching position at the University of Cincinnati. From 1998 to 2015 he served on the faculty of the University of Louisville and in 2015 joined the faculty of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Frequently giving master classes as part of his concert engagements, he was selected as a featured guest artist of the Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland.
