Mathieu Lussier Named Artistic Director of Domaine Forget Academy & Festival in Quebec

Conductor, bassoonist, and educator Mathieu Lussier has succeeded Paul Fortin as the Artistic Director of Domaine Forget in Charlevoix, Quebec. His firm commitment to education, and the valuable relationships with artist management agencies he maintains as Artistic Director of Arion Baroque Orchestra, allows him to move between Domaine Forget’s academy and festival components. A curious and open-minded pioneer of new repertoire, Mathieu has an intimate knowledge of the musical communities of Montreal and Quebec, where he was Associate Conductor of Les Violons du Roy from 2012 to 2018. Mathieu’s new position at Domaine Forget marks the third high-profile appointment to a major Quebec cultural institution in recent months.

Founded in 1978 on a 100-acre historical property overlooking the St. Lawrence River, Domaine Forget de Charlevoix is, first and foremost, one of Canada’s leading summer academies, internationally renowned for providing high-level instruction to talented up-and-coming dancers and musicians. Domaine Forget is also the host of an International Music and Dance Festival every summer, with over 30 concerts, 40 public master classes and Academy concerts, and 13 musical brunches.

A meeting place for great musical traditions from all over the world, Domaine Forget welcomes more than 400 artists to its various activities each year. Its International Festival presents more than 70 events each summer, primarily focused on classical music but featuring jazz and dance performances as well. Domaine Forget’s variety programming is devoted to popular music, song, humor, theater, cinema and much more. The International Academy, at the heart of Domaine Forget’s activities, welcomes some 120 educators and nearly 500 students each year to its professional development sessions. These sessions span a wide variety of instruments and disciplines, including brass, composition, piano, chamber music, vocals and vocal accompaniment, guitar, dance, strings and string ensemble, conducting, and choir. Recognized by social and cultural organizations throughout Charlevoix, Quebec, and Canada, Domaine Forget has made significant contributions to music, dance, and cultural life.
